Latvian folklore group Vilki
USA concert tour 2006.
We hope you were able to attend one of the Vilki
concerts. We decided to leave this information up for a while longer.
Five members of the renowned mens
folklore group Vilki (The Wolves) from Latvia,
will be going on a concert tour of the USA in April and May of 2006. Their
repertoire is composed mainly of Latvian soldiers songs whose origins span
the centuries from ancient times up to the present day. The groups members
not only sing but also devote themselves to researching and reviving the ways
and rituals of the ancient Latvian warriors. Even today the Vilki
continue to collect and preserve the songs and memoirs of Latvian soldiers. Each
of the groups members also masters
one of the ancient crafts - wood carving, making ancient instruments, carving
and engraving replicas of 12th-13th century adornments.
Their costumes are reproductions based on items of clothing found in 10th-13th
century archaeological sites.
